X-ceptional WILD WOMEN! Walkin' !!!
"WE NEED TO WALK TO KNOW SACRED PLACES, THOSE AROUND US AND THOSE WITHIN. WE NEED TO WALK TO REMEMBER THE SONGS."
~~Abenaki native poet Joseph Bruchac I walked 60 miles in 3 days as a Survivor in the Dallas Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day!!! And,in that walk, we were charged with maintaining SAFETY, & KINDNESS, KINDNESS, & KINDNESS. It was in the walk-ING that we each experienced reverence, respect, realities--our own and that of others. Quite a lesson; quite a gift. "ONE THING I'VE LEARNED: UNEXPECTED KINDNESS IS THE MOST POWERFUL, LEAST COSTLY AND MOST UNDERRATED AGENT OF HUMAN CHANGE. KINDNESS THAT CATCHES US BY SURPRISE BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN OUR NATURES." ~~Kerrey What a POWERFUL CELEBRATION...to the memory of those special souls we loved whose lives were lost to us too soon, of those in battle with this monster right now, and of every individual who has triumphed over her/his fight...AND of myself! Every WALKER, every CREW, every CHEERGROUP, every VOLUNTEER, can say now, "It's ALL ABOUT ME!" We did an awesome thing, and in so doing, raised over 2.5 million dollars NET! "The answer is in the action." ~~Jeff Combs 3000 plus people found the answer on an April 2002 weekend in Dallas. Thousands more found it in other cities as they treked through the streets in the cold, the heat, the rain, the wind to raise awareness about DETECTION, TREATMENT, AND EDUCATION especially for the uninsured and underprivileged. I walked with X-ceptional people! Their stories sit in my heart. My life was changed. My family's lives were changed...they KNEW at the Opening Ceremony that they weren't leaving to visit 6-flags or the Rangers game... my family found EVERY pit stop along the way - 10 hours a day for 3 days - to blast their CD's to keep us going, to blow bubbles to make us lighter on our feet, to write in colored chalk on the pavement, to dance on top of the car with florescent signs, to hug again and again and again, and to clap for EVERYONE who passed until their hands cracked. Every walker completed the entire route, whether or not they walked it with their own feet. "Every mile makes a Difference." "THE WAY TO FINAL FREEDOM IS WITHIN THY SELF." |
